The end of Design Studio updates...

Wednesday, 1 May 2013

Provocraft have announced that they will no longer be releasing updates to Design Studio. This includes both program updates and Content (cartridge) updates. Here's their announcement:

"In order to focus our attention and resources on creating and improving the Cricut® experience, we will not be providing further updates to the Cricut DesignStudio® software. In addition, any cartridges released after April 11, 2013 will not be updated to appear in the Cricut DesignStudio® software. We will still offer support, but there will be no additional content updates for the Cricut DesignStudio® software."

The final content update (v130401) was released early April 2013. That update contained the following cartridges:

Animal Antics
Boho Graphics Iron On
Brooklyn Iron On
Creative Cards
Creative Memories Tiny Treasures
Folk Art Festival
Outdoor Man
Southwest
Simple Cards
Something to Remember
Teresa Collins December 25th.

Any cartridges released after the above won't be added to DS.

You can download the above update from: http://www.cricut.com/home/support/cricut-designstudio-reg-support/

(Select Cartridge Update 2.)

Any previous cartridges will be found in the Program Update (cartridges released up to Nov 2009) and Cartridge Update 1 (cartridges released after Nov 2009.)

DS for Newbies manual

Back when Design Studio was first released I started putting a beginners guide together. For some reason I never got around to posting it on the blog. Instead I concentrated on putting individual tutorials together.

Well, a month or so ago I dragged the guide out, dusted it off and finished it!

So, if you're new to DS or just want a refresher on what the program can actually do, here it is! Just click the link below to download the PDF.

If you find the guide useful I'd appreciate it if you could become a follower (if you're not already).

If you wish to share the guide with your friends - great! However, I'd love it if you could direct them to this blog rather than just share the link to the file.

I know Design Studio is an old software but I just purchased it last week off of Ebay. I installed it on my laptop but unable to open. When I double-click the program, it gives a message that program needs to close and it disappears. when I purchased it, it said it was new and never been used. Please do you have any idea what I need to do in order to use the software?

Are you downloading the latest version from cricut.com? The version on the cd is the original version which isn't compatible with Windows 7 onwards or with Macs. So long as you're using a PC you can download from http://www.cricut.com/home/support/cricut-designstudio-reg-support/

There's 3 downloads there you need to do. Download and install the Program Update first. Then you can use the serial number off your cd to activate it.

Once that's done you can download and install the two cartridge updates. They add all the carts that were released after the DS cd came out.

If you're using a Mac then the only way you can use it is with PC emulating software.

Hope that helps!

Narelle,
First of all thanks for your blog!
I just bought 2 Expression 2 and one Personal Cutters. I want to use the personal as a "take anywhere machine".
I have tired to update the Personal firmware V1 to V1.1(I own SCL) for several days. I used Cricut Sync - no luck refers me to CCR; tried CCR-never Initialized; tried CDS download from PC-won't recognized cutter. No antivirus running-did add exceptions for the Cricut software, no Firewall running, updated the serial > USB driver & was verified by CCR as current driver. Speedtest my connection 11.5 upstream, 6.2 downstream, 125MS Ping. So no problems anywhere except with this poorly written software. Called PC...couldn't help
I would deeply appreaciate any ideas! Having invested over $2000 into these products, supplies & cartridges, I am quite upset
Thank you

Hi again
As a followup to my problem it is solved. Their is a file that loads... CCRBRIDGE.EXE when you download and install CCR from the PC site. You need an older version of this file to make everything happy with older machines and older OS (Windows XP).
It is not a problem with Antivirus or Firewall software, no exceptions need to be added.
If anyone needs or wants more details let me know.
Happy crafting!

I have an original expression. When I try to log into the craft room it says "this app cannot be installed due to a certificate problem The cert does not match the installed app cert, does not support app, ungrades or is invalid Contact the app author. Have you hears of this. If I try to go thru Cricut sync it says the same thing. Thanks for any info. Karleen
